Department of Department of Orthodontics

The Department of Orthodontics , Faculty of Dentistry) Liaquat University of Medical Health Sciences (LUMHS) Jamshoro, Sindh, Pakistan is committed to promoting excellence in terms of dental education/ awareness and research. It provides best environment for the training of undergraduate and postgraduate students as they deserve, in order to make them more confident in their profession of dentistry.

AIMS AND OBJECTIVES:

  • To provide the high quality of patient care
  • To organize national and international conferences and workshops
  • To impart state of the art teaching and training in orthodontic department at the undergraduate and postgraduate levels the basic and clinical dentistry.

EDUCATIONAL AND TRAINING:

Undergraduate: Orthodontic is taught in final year Bachelors of Dentistry (BDS), twice a week lecture at Institute of Dentistry at final year lecture hall, delivered by senior faculty members/ Dr Abdul Jabbar (Assistant professor, BDS, FCPS), Dr Qamar-ul-nisa incharge of Orthodontic Department, Dr Subuhi Ghani (Assistant professor). Students come to orthodontic department to learn the basic clinical skills, teachers give them demonstration on clinical work, wire work, cephalometric and model analysis etc. This clinical work is done 5 days in a week, 5hrs in a day at Jamshoro as well as Civil Hospital Hyderabad OPD (out patient department), it’s a good opportunity for the student to learn knowledge, skill, attitude and management of patient on their patients language.

Each trainee work under supervision, Supervisor is prescribed according to the course for the postgraduates working in that particular unit. The training is in form of Lectures, Presentations by postgraduate trainees and supervisors, clinical skills development in form of case presentations, General Clubs, No. of patients, Mandatory workshops, Surgical training under supervision of the senior faculty members. 

APPLIANCES: Use in orthodontics are as under:

  • Functional appliances in growing patient
FUTURE PLANS: Continuous up gradation of orthodontic department with dental equipments, dental material and improve and incorporate more advanced treatment techniques to increase clinical skills.

MDS (Master of Dental Surgery in Orthodontics): a 4-Year program is in process of affiliation with PM& DC.
