Department of Operative Dentistry

The Department of Operative Dentistry, Liaquat University of Medical & Health Sciences (LUMHS) Jamshoro, Sindh, Pakistan, is committed to promoting excellence in terms of dental education and research. It provides a conducing environment for the training of both undergraduate and post graduates dental students in order to make them competent and confident in the profession of the dentistry.

The aim of the undergraduate course leading to the degree of BDS is to educate students the fundamentals and basic principles of Restorative Dentistry. It provides an opportunity to learn Knowledge, Skills and Attitude of the basic clinical procedure with the ability to continue learning beyond graduation. The undergraduates are also encouraged to perform the research under the guidance of qualified teachers to make them research oriented. Various teaching aids are used to include Lectures, Tutorials, Presentations, Projects, Case studies and problem based learning, Outpatient clinics and periods of self directed learning. Summative assessment methods include written exams, oral exams, clinical exams (OSPE/OSCE) and periodic internal evaluation.

Whereas, as long as the postgraduate course are concerned the Department offers Master in Dental Surgery (MDS 4 years), Master in Science (MSc 2 years) and also provides the training for the courses offered by CPSP the FCPS and MCPS in Operative Dentistry and other sub-specialties of Restorative Dentistry. The aim of postgraduate courses are to produces the specialist and consultant to serve the community with high professional abilities and responsibilities. To produces the scholar and teacher by providing them research and educational learning environment.

The Department also provides the full range of clinical services to the community of diverse patient population with more than three hundred daily turn out

The faculty members of Department consist of highly qualified teachers and consultants to provide the excellent services in terms of education, research and human health.
